Viognier (70%), Chenin Blanc (15%), Grenache Blanc (10%), Roussanne (5%)

Tasting notes

This elegant Swartland white blend is naturally made. Barrel fermented with subtle aromas of apricots, lime, pineapple and creamy nuances. Fresh, yet bold with lingering minerality.

The Vineyard

Vineyard: 27 Hectares
Viticulture: Dry land and Organic (certified 2012)
Production: 10 tons used for Nativo (6000 bottles)
Yields: 4 tons per Hectare
Soils: Glenrosa and Oakleaf
Trellis: Perold 5 wires

Vinification

Grapes were hand-picked according to phenolic ripeness into small baskets and naturally fermented in line w ith SIP principles. Most of them were matured in 2nd or 3rd fill small French oak barrels for 9 months, and a portion of the Viognier was harvested early and fermented and matured in Stainless Steel tank. Our aim was to create a wine with a harmonious palate and a good fresh finish to partner with a wide range of food dishes. 11 600 bottles were produced.

Ageing potential

The wine is drinking well now and will continue to improve in the bottle for 3 years or more.

Food suggestions

Full flavoured dishes such as tuna carpaccio, grilled line fish with coriander, lime & ginger, chicken with citrus & chilli, or Thai green curry.

The Swartland Independent Producers (SIP) is an association of some wine producers in Swartland that have committed to produce wines that comply with specific guidelines. The aim is to ensure that the high quality wines produced give a true sense of place and expression of character of the Swartland.

It is the only movement of its kind in South Africa and the New World and demands an organic approach to viticulture, specific grape varietals and natural fermentation.

Tasting Notes

A natural approach to viticulture and red soils bring forth aromas of dark red berries and spice complemented by distinctive mineral overtones. A warm mouth feel and a a gentle finish on ripe tannins

Food suggestions

Morrocan lamp, sweet potato and coriander with a spicy cumin jus. Norwegian salmon carpaccio with sushi rice ball, pickled ginger & sesame seeds/

Natural fermentation (native yeasts) with frequent punch down in accordance with SIP guidelines.
Malolactic fermentation in wood, 8 months maturation of individual varietals in 225 lts barriques and 600 lts barrels another 4 months after blending.

Tasting notes

Food suggestions

Red Thai curry with coconut milk, ginger, fresh chilli and coriander. Cape Malay Curry. Moroccan lamb meatballs. Ostrich & game dishes.

Tasting notes

A naturally made Swartland white blend with minimum intervention. Generous aromas of white peach, hints of ripe pineapple, hay, and lime which follows on the palate with a softly lingering mineral finish.

Food suggestions

Full flavoured dishes such as tuna carpaccio, grilled line fish with cordiander, lime, and ginger. Chicken with citrus and chilli, or Thai green curry.

Amarillo 2018

Viognier, Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne – made from certified organic grapes

Tasting notes

A natural “orange” wine made by leaving the juice on extended skin contact, allowing “oxidation, and using minimal additives. This produces a white wine with a dark yellow or orange colour, intense and bold flavours, and a little something different.

Food suggestions

Full flavoured dishes with rich, natural oil component such as strong cheeses, cured meat, or fish. Raclette and chorizo, or seared salmon.

Vinification

Grapes are hand-picked according to phenolic ripeness into small baskets, naturally fermented on native yeasts, in line with SIP principles, and then matured in 2nd or 3rd fill French oak barrels and stainless-steel tank for 9 months.

Less than 300 bottles available.

Ageing potential

The wine is drinking well now and will continue to improve for another 3 years or more.

Granacha 2018

100% Grenache Noir – made from certified organic grapes

Tasting notes

A feminine, organic red wine from the Swartland with aromas of red berries, strawberries and raspberries, with a subtle minerality finished off with gentle tannins and a note of white pepper.

Food suggestions

Light red meat dishes, such as springbok carpaccio, or beef tartare. Grilled lamb chops with earth spices such as cumin, turmeric and coriander. Pairs well with berry components such as raspberry or red berry sauce.
