ABOUT NATIVO

The Founder

After settling in South Africa in 1990, Argentinian-born Billy Hughes was inspired to start his own wine venture in the Cape. His farming interest grew…

OUR WINES

There is no recipe for Nativo blends…

At The Hughes Family Wines, we make only two wines per vintage, a Red Blend and a White Blend.

THE VINEYARD

The Organic Movement is the base of our system …

In our vineyard we use our Trilogy approach to farming, where we overlap three recognized philosophies to obtain a balanced approach.

THE CELLAR

We have built and underground cellar using used shipping containers, natural stones and other materials from our area.

Our soils are red and high in clay content. This produces wines that are dark, dense and masculine. Our mission in life is to tame them a bit a give them more subtle and feminine tones. We achieve this by using whole bunch fermentation, harvesting early and breaking the skins as little as possible.

The Billy Hughes shortlist

Our online store will be opening soon! In the meantime, please send an e-mail to billy@nativo.co.za to place your order. Please note that NATIVO is sold in cases of 6 or 12 bottles, and no partial cases are available.

Red Blend 2014

Dry land farming and a natural approach to viticulture brings forth aromas of dark berries and mineral overtones. Warm mouth feel and silky finish on ripe tannins.

Read what our clients think after tasting our wines

I’ve been a big fan of Nativo since first meeting Billy and tasting the wines when we opened Publik wine bar, not just because the wines are of high quality but because of the sustainable farming methods he employs that go into making the wines more than just delicious, but responsible too.
